exam REQUIREMENTS to get trained IN A UNITED STATES DENTAL PROGRAM FOR INTERNATIONAL DENTISTS

The pathways to pursue advanced dental education programs in the U.S. are not easy, but definitely possible. Most dental programs require applicants to clear two exams - NBDE 1 and NBDE 2 as one of the basic steps prior to applying to their programs. However, starting August 2020, the American Dental Association will replace these two exams with a single examination - the integrated NBDE. Besides this, the schools also require applicants to take an English proficiency exam -TOEFL/ IELTS (all schools accept TOEFL but very few accept IELTS so we recommend taking the TOEFL exam.

We have discussed in detail regarding the application process and the study resources for NBDE 1, NBDE 2, INBDE and the TOEFL. We have also discussed about an additional exam - the ADAT. Once you submit your applications to different schools, the schools might invite you for another in-person clinical exam on typodonts called the bench test. We have discussed about the bench test and the main important criteria for this exam here.
